Genevieve attends a dinner party at Lorraine's
Paris “cottage” where Lorraine and
his supporters fail to win over a rival politician
opposed to Lorraine's imperialist agenda.
Meanwhile, Julien examines the temple, a strange
collection of Greek, Jewish and ancient Middle-eastern
symbols. The temple lets out into the office
of Hugo deMedici, a powerful merchant prince
and a political ally of Lorraine.
The Man in White discovers Julien in the office
and gives chase. Julien's street urchin friends
come to his rescue and sling rocks at the Man
in White. A stone hits the Man in White squarely
in the temple. He falls into a sewage channel,
apparently dead.
